Sunday Jan.22/12

For the last ten days or maybe two weeks action around our house and our attending community events came to a near halt.   Outside temperatures have been cold and usually a strong wind with a hefty wind chill factor.  Other than keeping ourselves warm and fed we have been doing a few things.  We did go to Ice On Whytle and that was a bit of a disappointment as just at 5:00pm when we were scheduled to meet the group a wet snow started falling.  Blowing snow but not that cold.  We met with one member of the club but we decided to leave about half past five.  Just a few pictures.  Then on Friday 20th we ventured out to our Parliament  Buildings to see the ice sculptures there.  After we parked we walked for about 3 blocks to where they were.  What a walk - Strong cold wind chill to minus 25.  Not good pics but here is one

On Saturday - yesterday - we had another Meet-Up with the camera club to attend the Chinese New Year.  That was a very interesting day and we met other club members there.  This is the Year of the Dragon so there were many dragons and many Cultural events to see and  take part in.

Winston Churchill Square and Edmonton Centre is were we attended but West Ed Mall hosted events as well.
We went to Church this morning. That was good, Christian had a good sermon.  After Church and coffee and twelve people went to the Golden Capital for brunch.  Wonder what will turn up for supper!

January 11,2011

Jack has responed to a Subaru Recall as there could be a faulty steering problems./  He had an appointment for this afternoon and is away.  Gives me an afternoon for getting this blog caught up.
Not that there has ever been a problem.  For the most part life has been quiet.  On Saturday 7th Vera Ward came to visit.  We went to the Muttart Gardens to see the poinsettias - They were nice

Then we wanted to get to some warm weather and went to see the arid area

Also saw some beautiful orchids. After that we went to the Deep Freeze January Fest.  That was held outdoors on 118th av.  92 and 96th streets.  The weather was good and the festival was well attended.
some of the events were

We went to church on Sunday and after the service we had lunch at Joeys Tomato - just Jack and I.
Tuesday I went to Companions on the Journey meeting and in the evening we went to RV Regular meeting.  This coming Saturday I have another photography Meet-Up.  As a group we will attend Ice on Whyte.  Another winter festival.  We expect to see a lot of Ice Carvings.  There will be Ice carvers from China. I look forward to that.  Hope I get some nice pictures.

New Year Eve - 2011

We spent a very quite day at home,  After doing some housework and preparing supper Jack is watching the hockey game (world juniors) Canada is playing the US tonight and were ahead at the end of the first period.
I cooked a venison roast and braised red cabbage and roasted a potato.  The venison is delicious this year and we are enjoying it. Thats good because the animal was a big one - so hope the "enjoying" lasts the winter!

I joined a new Photo Club - The Edmonton Shutter-Bugs.  Their gatherings are called "Meet-Up" We meet at a event and take pictures and get to know each other.  This was taken at Christmas in Heartland
The event was in the Fort Saskatchewan  area.  There were sleigh rides.

Then we went to Lumineria at the Devonian Gardens   That is the moon too

We had a nice Christmas this year.  The usual parties - Ardrossan Seniors;  RV Christmas Get-to-gether;  Curling banquet. all were fun.  Then on the 20th Killian came in from school and stayed until Sonia and Dawson came on the 22nd.  They all went to the hockey game on Friday - World Jr. exhibition and then on Saturday Sonia and gang went to Boyle to be with grandma there for the day.  Saturday morning we left for Fort Vermilion and Christmas with Greg Deanna and the Boys;
The last part of the road was icy and once the truck did a spin-around but we were able to "right" ourselves and drive on.  Arrived there a 8:00pm.
After breakfast and present opening there was time to go to church.  It was a nice Service.

The presents were plentiful as usual

This was taken while Killian was here.  Playing crib

Greg and Deanna with some of their gifts.

Jonathan and Logan have started playing hockey and alot their gifts were hockey equipment.
Greg and the boys are running traplines.  No answer at their house tonight.  They have spent previous New Year Eves at the Cabin on the trapline.

The hockey (world jrs) game is in the third period and Canada was ahead of the USA.
Don't know if this pair of Oldies will be up to watch the New Year roll in at midnight on Television
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

December 02,2011

Hello

A long time since I have posted news.  Since October 30th from Kelowna. Not good
Have been doing this and that and mostly not much!
This week, I have started to think Christmas baking and have done grocery shopping.  All my ingredients for soup were depleted so spent a couple of hours at Save-On in the bulk food section and now have a supple.  Actully I took a chicken from the freezer for chicken soup tomorrow  Violet was in hospital the first week of November with fluid around her heart.  She has not recovered completely yet and I will take soup tomorrow.
Logan had a wrestling tournament at Wetaskawen this week.  A school group  of 42 came down from the Fort school division.  Jack went down to watch and said Logan won a bronze.  I went to Violets to spend her 87th birthday with her today. Health-wise she has a way to go to better health.
The above is Dawson = a big pitch in Kansas and a group of Longhorns in a pasture along the road on the way home from  Barrhead Thanksgiving weekend.

We went to Barrhead to see Ed Thanksgiving weekend.  We arrived there just about noon so we decided to have lunch in a cafe.   The only one that was open on that Sunday was The Red Barn in the Barrhead Inn.  Low and behold their special was Turkey dinner.  We enjoyed that.
